Want a great idea for a date? Why not treat your love interest or summer fling to a fabulous pre-Bard picnic courtesy of Emelle's Catering Ltd. The 2011 Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival has partnered with Emelle's to offer theatre patrons delicious picnic packages to enjoy in Vanier Park prior to each performance.
Bard Picnics must be ordered at least 48 hours in advance and can be picked up at the box office prior to that evening's performance. Gourmet selections range from focaccia sandwiches and salad to antipasto, artisan cheeses and wild BC Sockeye salmon. Vegetarian options are also available. Picnic prices start at only $15.95 per person.
A limited number of picnic tables are located in the Bard village but we really think there's nothing like lounging on the grass under the evening sun on a big blanket. Just be sure to give yourself enough time. Picnics can be picked up up to two hours before curtain.
This year, the extremely popular Bard festival features some of Shakespeare's most famous plays, including As You Like It, The Merchant of Venice, Henry VI and Richard III. This isn't your high school Shakespeare class.
