07/21/2011 - 2011 Vancouver Pride Parade & Festival
Vancouver's 33rd Pride Parade
takes place in downtown Vancouver on July 31st, and this time the Mayor WILL attend (at least we think so). According to the Vancouver Pride Society (VPS), more than 640,000 people came out to enjoy last year's parade, which is the largest of its kindin Western Canada.
The VPS brings together the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities, their friends and families for a fun, educational and peaceful celebration of diversity and inclusivity.
Here are a few events that you can look forward to leading up to and during the Festival:
Saturday, July 23 - Picnic in the Park
Brockton Oval, Stanley Park, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. - FREE
This event is a celebration for the entire family and includes activities for children. Guests can enjoy a BBQ and a beer garden with live dj music.
Tuesday & Wednesday, July 26-27 - Queer Arts Festival - $12 in advance, $15-20 Door (TBA)
Roundhouse Theatre, Yaletown, from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm
VPS partners with the Queer Arts Festival for two days to bring audiences a diverse exhibition of dance, music, theatre, variety and comedy performances.
Friday, July 29 - Caya Davie Street Dance Party - General Admission $10
Davie Village from Burrard past Bute St. 7:00 pm to 12:00 am. Powered by Telus.
Enjoy the event of the season as Pride takes over Davie Street with live music, dancing, street vendors and colorful costumes.
